Impartiality is a condition of acceptance.

Energy Up International is responsible for the impartiality of its validation and verification activities. Commercial, financial or other pressure is not permitted to compromise a conclusion.

The governing rule

Two sentences that decide most of it.

We do not examine what we helped to prepare, and the person who performed the verification does not take the verification decision.

Relationships and potential conflicts are identified, assessed, treated and monitored before and during each engagement. The assessment is documented; it is not a conversation.

How threats are handled

Identify, analyse, treat, monitor.

  1. Identify

Relationships across the group, prior work for the client, personal relationships, financial interests and the origin of the assertion.

    Before acceptance
  2. Analyse

Self-interest, self-review, advocacy, familiarity and intimidation threats are assessed against the specific engagement.

    Documented
  3. Treat

Team separation, personnel exclusion, time separation, additional independent review — or declining the engagement.

    Recorded decision
  4. Monitor

Circumstances change during delivery. A new relationship arising mid-engagement is reassessed, not absorbed.

What this rules out

The engagements we will not accept.

  • Verifying an inventory, footprint or claim that we prepared, corrected or designed.
  • Providing consultancy on the subject matter of a verification we are performing.
  • Accepting a fee arrangement contingent on the conclusion reached.
  • Allowing a person who performed the work to review it or decide on it.
  • Accepting an engagement where a readiness review created a self-review threat that cannot be reduced to an acceptable level.
Reporting a concern

If you think a conclusion was influenced, say so.

Any client, statement user or other interested party may raise a concern about impartiality through the complaints route. Raising one does not affect access to our services and does not trigger discriminatory action of any kind.

Describe the claim — not the service.

Tell us what must be relied on, who will rely on it and by what date. We will confirm the correct programme, evidence requirement and responsible entity — or tell you it is outside our scope.
